Butterfield to Acquire Rawlinson & Hunter Guernsey, Expanding Private Trust Capabilities

Butterfield has announced an agreement to acquire Rawlinson & Hunter Guernsey, the independently owned Guernsey member firm of the Rawlinson & Hunter International Network, further strengthening its private trust and fiduciary services in the Channel Islands. The acquisition adds approximately 50 experienced professionals, 71 client groups, and $9.0 billion in assets under administration, reinforcing Butterfield’s position as a leading provider of private trust services in Guernsey and globally.

Michael Collins, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Butterfield, said: “R&H Guernsey is a great addition to our growing private trust business, which is a significant fee revenue generator for Butterfield. This acquisition will increase Butterfield’s presence as a leading provider of private trust services in Guernsey and globally.” He added that the deal reflects Butterfield’s continued focus on growth through strategic M&A in core markets. Alasdair Cross, Senior Partner of R&H Guernsey, noted: “Butterfield is a well-known leader in the trust industry and we look forward to working with them to provide our clients with the same high quality of service and continuity they have enjoyed under current ownership.” The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
