Bonsai Health, the agentic AI platform automating complex healthcare workflows, announced that Rick Trefzger has joined the company as Chief Revenue Officer (CRO).
Trefzger joins Bonsai after nearly 11 years at Modernizing Medicine (ModMed), where he was an early employee and served as vice president of sales, helping scale the company into the leading specialty-specific EHR platform serving dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, and other core specialties. During his tenure, ModMed grew into one of the most widely adopted specialty technology platforms in the U.S., transforming how medical practices operate and deliver care. He most recently served as vice president of global software sales at IDEXX.
The appointment follows Bonsai’s recent $7 million seed raise, led by Bonfire Ventures and Wonder Ventures, as the company expands its agentic AI platform to help practices improve patient outcomes, reduce administrative burden, and drive sustainable growth.

“Bonsai is defining an entirely new category of practice automation, AI that actually does the work,” said Rick Trefzger, chief revenue officer of Bonsai Health. “The platform’s early traction shows just how transformative this model can be for practices and patients alike. I’m thrilled to join this exceptional team and help scale that impact.”
