Share

HSBC has formed a multi-year partnership with Mistral AI. This aims to speed up the use of generative AI in its global operations. The collaboration will streamline internal processes, boost efficiency, and improve customer service for millions of clients worldwide.

Under the agreement, HSBC will gain access to Mistral AI’s commercial and future-generation models. The bank’s in-house technology teams will work closely with Mistral’s applied AI experts to build and deploy custom generative AI solutions across various business lines. By integrating self-hosted models within its own infrastructure, HSBC intends to strengthen ongoing AI initiatives while maintaining strict control over data security and privacy.

The bank already evaluates multiple large language models as part of its broader technology strategy. Mistral’s capabilities will now be used to power HSBC’s internal productivity platform, enabling employees to automate and accelerate key tasks. These include generating customized client communications, supporting marketing teams with highly personalized campaigns, assisting procurement teams in identifying risks and savings, and improving financial analysis for complex lending processes. Additional applications, such as multilingual translation and faster innovation cycles, are also planned.

The partnership will equip our colleagues with tools to help them innovate, simplify daily tasks, and free up time to deliver for our customers,” said Georges Elhedery, Group CEO of HSBC.

HSBC’s partnership boosts its investments in advanced AI tools. These tools aim to modernize operations and improve customer experiences. Future plans will improve lending and credit processes. They will also enhance onboarding workflows and strengthen fraud and anti-money laundering checks.

Both organizations stress their commitment to responsible AI standards. This includes transparency, data protection, and ethical development practices.

“We are proud to engage in this long-term partnership with HSBC. Our highly customisable, enterprise-grade frontier AI solutions will reinvent HSBC’s workflows and services while ensuring full ownership of data. Together, we will provide HSBC’s employees with high-end, AI-powered productivity tools and a new generation of banking services for millions of customers worldwide,” said Arthur Mensch, Co-Founder and CEO of Mistral AI.
