Global small business platform Xero has announced an enterprise-wide software integration with Microsoft 365. The partnership brings live financial data and analytical intelligence directly into day-to-day productivity tools, allowing small businesses, accounting professionals, and bookkeepers to access real-time financial tracking without leaving their primary workspaces.
Modern small businesses and corporate financial teams frequently encounter significant operational friction due to disconnected data workflows. Staff are often required to continuously toggle between their standalone accounting software and productivity suites to update spreadsheets, draft board presentations, or handle client communications. This manual data handling not only slows down strategic decision-making but also introduces administrative errors from outdated numbers or copy-paste mistakes. The new integration addresses this bottleneck by embedding an interactive, real-time context layer natively across Microsoft’s productivity ecosystem.
Embedding Autonomous Financial Intelligence in Daily Apps
The core of the software integration relies on JAX, Xero‘s proprietary AI financial superagent. Operating within Xero’s framework of Accountable Intelligence, JAX functions as an action-oriented financial layer that connects small business books directly with Microsoft 365 Copilot to deliver real-time data automation.

The initial rollout optimizes workflows across three foundational business tools:
- Interactive Data Modeling in Excel: Injects live financial data directly into spreadsheets as structured tables, completely eliminating manual CSV exports and data cleanups.
- Automated Reporting in Word: Weaves real-time accounting summaries and accounts receivable data directly into board reports or corporate loan applications without requiring reformatting.
- Streamlined Pitch Generation in PowerPoint: Populates financial health graphs and performance updates directly into active presentation slide decks with absolute data tracing back to the source ledger.
Unlocking Efficiency and Eliminating Switch Fatigue
By moving financial intelligence from a separate app directly into everyday business tools, the system frees up critical administrative capacity for small businesses and independent agencies. Users no longer suffer from “switch fatigue” or lose critical financial context when collaborating across distributed project teams.
The integration provides a seamless path back to Xero for deeper accounting work through clickable links within Copilot Chat, hyperlinks in text documents, or Xero URLs embedded inside spreadsheet cells. Following the launch, Xero plans to scale the integration’s footprint across additional corporate applications within the suite, including Microsoft Outlook and Teams, to extend automated financial context to inbox and video chat environments.
Executive Insights on Financial Data Accessibility
“Business owners are constantly switching between tools and losing financial context when they are working outside of Xero. Bringing JAX into the Microsoft ecosystem is another major milestone in our push to remove operational complexity for our customers,” said Diya Jolly, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Xero. “Whether you’re forecasting in Excel or building a pitch in PowerPoint, Copilot can instantly surface the insights behind your business’s financial health, with a clear, seamless path back to Xero as the source of truth and destination for deeper work.”
“With financial intelligence from Xero accessible in Microsoft 365, Xero customers will have real-time, data-backed insights right in the apps they already use every day,” said Bryan Allen, Director of Product Marketing, Microsoft 365 Copilot at Microsoft. “In today’s dynamic business environment, we look forward to seeing this integration deliver new levels of operational efficiency for small businesses and accountants around the world.”
Data Privacy Commitments and Deployment Settings
Built in strict compliance with Xero’s responsible data use commitments, the integration prioritizes absolute data security, ensuring that small business data remains protected and isolated during AI processing. The core Microsoft 365 and Copilot integration capabilities are live and rolling out globally across active subscriber networks. Small business managers, corporate accountants, and operations teams can explore system compatibility parameters, review data governance frameworks, and enable the cross-platform connection through their designated administration settings.
