The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the primary post-trade market infrastructure for the global financial sector, has forged a strategic collaboration with fintech leader iCapital to advance the core operational framework powering private investments.
The joint initiative combines DTCC’s institutional market infrastructure, post-trade processing capabilities, and global clearing network with iCapital’s financial technology platform and digital workflow engines. By unifying operational touchpoints across the private asset lifecycle, both entities aim to reduce systemic friction, elevate data transparency, and allow wealth managers and asset managers to deploy capital into private markets with higher operational efficiency and reduced risk.
To reinforce its long-term commitment to the initiative, DTCC has also made a direct strategic equity investment in iCapital.
Unifying Alternative Asset Workflows to Meet Surging Private Market Demand
As high-net-worth investors and institutional portfolios increasingly rebalance toward a blend of public and private assets, financial advisors continue to face administrative challenges caused by non-standardized alternative investment processes.
The alliance between DTCC and iCapital addresses these market bottlenecks by constructing a connected, automated post-trade ecosystem engineered to mirror the operational speed and reliability of public capital markets.
Key operational focus areas and platform enhancements include:
-
Enhanced AIP Platform Integration: Deepens connectivity between DTCC’s Alternative Investment Product (AIP) service and iCapital’s investment platform, unifying transaction processing, data transmission, account administration, and investor reporting.
-
Simplified Advisor Workflows: Offers wealth advisors a streamlined gateway to discover, subscribe to, and manage alternative investments inside client portfolios.
-
Standardized Distribution for Asset Managers: Provides private market sponsors with a unified, scalable distribution channel to efficiently access and service the wealth management segment.
-
Exploration of Emerging Market Technologies: Lays the foundation for potential joint deployment of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), blockchain protocols, and asset tokenization frameworks to upgrade transaction efficiency across private market assets.

Executive Perspectives on Private Market Modernization
“Private markets represent one of the most significant growth areas in financial services today, creating an urgent need for modern, scalable infrastructure. Our strategic partnership with iCapital reflects DTCC’s commitment to supporting the continued evolution of diverse financial markets,” said Frank La Salla, President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of DTCC. “Broader adoption of alternative investments will depend on making the ecosystem easier to navigate, more efficient to operate, and highly resilient.”
“Together, iCapital and DTCC are advancing the infrastructure and standards shaping the future of private markets. Our shared vision is a more connected ecosystem that expands access and makes alternative investments easier and more efficient to transact and manage. We will partner on technologies that support the overall goals of the relationship such as blockchain enabled DLT and tokenization where appropriate that help build a stronger foundation for the industry’s continued evolution,” said Lawrence Calcano, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of iCapital. “With this investment, DTCC joins a diversified group of strategic investors who share our conviction that the future of private markets will be underpinned by infrastructure that is more connected, standardized, and scalable.”
“We’re seeing increased demand for private assets as a component of investor portfolios, creating a growing need for accessible, scalable infrastructure,” added Klein. “Private markets have traditionally lacked the operational standards that exist in public markets. With this collaboration, we look forward to working alongside the iCapital team to improve connectivity, streamline processes, and support continued growth responsibly.”
Governance Alignment and Strategic Roadmap
In conjunction with DTCC’s capital investment, Talia Klein, Head of Wealth & Investment Solutions at DTCC, will join iCapital’s Board of Directors as a board observer.
The leadership teams will initially prioritize technical integrations between DTCC AIP and iCapital, followed by ongoing research into next-generation financial technologies designed to modernize capital call processes, liquidity management, and data synchronization across the global alternatives landscape.
