Xero launches Google Gemini integration small business users, bookkeepers, and accountants can now view live data, leverage insights and automate tasks using conversations in Gemini Xero is integrating its financial management platform with Gemini, Google’s new AI language model. This allows business users to view financial data without switching apps or breaking into business flow through Gemini conversations.

This launch also makes Xero the first financial management platform to launch a connected app for Gemini. The integration is driven by Xero’s agentic platform, JAX, and enables financial management workflows that anyone can complete by accessing accounting information in natural language prompts, all with the user maintaining control over financial decisions.

Incorporating Live Financial Data into AI Discussions

The integration enables users to ask Gemini questions on their financial position and receive answers based on real-time data from Xero. Businesses can review profit and loss statements, monitor income and expenses, check balance sheets, and evaluate their current cash position.

For sales and receivable management, user can identify old balances, analyze high revenue customers, view recurring subscriptions, and generate invoice summaries. For purchase and payable management, users can identify past due bills, flag overdue payments, and view vendor payment requirements.

Gemini also can transform financial data into visual presentations such as distributions of aged receivables or a net profit and loss chart. These features can make it easier for business owners and advisors to analyze the performance of a business.

“Connecting Xero financial data into Gemini conversations helps small businesses and their accountants and bookkeepers instantly check their financial position, track cash flow and manage invoices and bills, all without breaking their workflow,” said Diya Jolly, President of Product & Technology, Xero. “This is another major milestone as we continue to help eliminate operational friction and foster collaboration for our customers, delivering real-time financial intelligence wherever they work.”

Automating Routine Accounting Workflows

Beyond retrieving financial information, the integration also enables essential business functions. The interconnected products allow you to engage with your financial data using conversational prompts rather than switching screens and piecing together reports.

Then again, Xero is expanding the availability of client-specific financial data on its integrations so that accountants and bookkeepers can toggle between their clients’ organizations as they work in supported apps. This feature should help accountants efficiently guide multiple businesses.

This complements Xero’s larger vision of bringing the power of accounting into the applications in which its customers are already working. The firm has launched similar links across Microsoft 365 Claude for Small Business, and ChatGPT.

Maintaining Financial Data Security and Human Oversight

Responsibilities around data and control for AI in finance with more AI tools handling financial transactions, questions of data control remain. Based on Xero, all data entered into Google to be used to power Gemini is limited to that individual session and are not used to train Gemini models.

It also preserves human approval for writes to the books. Businesses that use the integration will be asked to confirm the sending of an invoice or payment reminder using the connected app in Gemini, before that write is executed by Xero. Owners and accountants will because of this be able to approve every action.

Advancing AI-Powered Financial Management

This partnership is part of a larger transition to a conversational assistant as the user interface for business applications. Linking real-time accounting information with an AI assistant, Xero’s goal is to get small businesses back to spending less time collecting data and more time analyzing it.

In addition, accountants, and bookkeepers can obtain immediate access to data that applies to certain clients and prepare reports simply by speaking or typing a message. This will ease their everyday tasks and open up potential revenue streams for advisory services. Small businesses can track cash flow, view outstanding bills and pay bills based on live data.

This partnership demonstrates how AI integrations are enabling intelligence at the process level, while protecting controls around sensitive data and financial transactions.
