Backstory, the new name of the previously titled People.ai enterprise revenue platform, now offers Situation Search. This feature is an MCP-native sales tool that is intended to help sales teams overcome difficulties in a given deal by finding a sales situation in a match with an organization’s past record of how it successfully won a deal. Situation Search goes directly to the emails, the transcripts, the CRM meetings, whatever, and pulls out the contextual, the situational pieces to surface up to four deals from the company’s historical records. Sales reps can access these via their chat workflow.

The feature brings the seller with the actions, the strategies, the outcomes they can draw from the previous similar deals to help them overcome the judgment gap of the new team while at the same time capturing the company’s institutional knowledge. Highlighting the platform’s core design philosophy, Jason Ambrose, CEO of Backstory, added: “Most of the AI that’s been shipped to sales teams asks a rep to trust a recommendation they have no way to see into. That’s a hard sell for someone whose job is to read a room and make a judgment call, and it’s a big reason so many of these tools stall after the pilot. We built Situation Search to work the other way around. It doesn’t tell a rep what to do. It shows them the deals their own company has already won in situations like theirs, and lets them decide what applies. That’s a kind of AI reps actually trust, because they can see exactly where it came from.”
